At the classroom, Miss Finster explained to her 5th Grade Students.
Miss Finster: Okay class, we are going to the assembly today. It is held at the auditorium. Now let's go!
Some of the mean 5th Graders were fussy, even Gelman.
Gelman: Oh come on! Not that!
At the auditorium, Principal Prickly had an announcement.
Principal Prickly: Hello! Welcome to the assembly! Let's say the pledge! A I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Now let's all sing the National Anthem!
Then all the students and staff began to sing the National Anthem, except for Gelman. But his friends were begrudgingly singing.
Students and staff: Oh, say! Can you see by the dawn's early light, what so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming; Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight, o'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming? And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air.
Miss Finster was getting grumpy and she nagged Gelman.
Miss Finster: Gelman, you better sing!
Miss Finster: Gelman, you better sing! Or else I will shove the name microphone in your throat!
Gelman: OK fine!
Students and staff: Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there:
Then Gelman begrudingly did as Miss Finster said and started singing begrudingly.
Students and staff: Oh, say! does that star-spangled banner yet wave, o'er the land of the free and the home of the brave? On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep, where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes, what is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep, as it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses? Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam, in fully glory reflected now shines in the stream: 'Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh, long may it wave, o'er the land of the free and the home of the brave! And where is that band who so vauntingly swore, that the havoc of war and the battle's confusion, a home and a country should leave us no more? Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution! No refuge could save the hireling and slave, from the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave: And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave, o'er the land of the free and the home of the brave, Oh, thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand, between their loved home and the war's desolation! Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land, praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation! Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just, and this be our motto: "In God is our trust": And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave, o 'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
The students and staff had finished singing the National Anthem. Principal Prickly continued to announce.
Principal Prickly: Okay, I would like to congratulate the Third Street School's Girls Soccer Team for getting first place at the tournament. Way to go, girls! We are having registrations for the Yearbook Club. If you are interested, please go by Miss Lemon's room for more information.
Gelman glared to Spinelli.
Gelman: Hey Spinelli! This assembly is so freaking boring!
Spinelli got very angry at Gelman, who was horrified.
Spinelli: Gelman! Just shut the heck up! I'm trying to listen to the assembly!
Miss Finster: Yeah Gelman! Just shut up and listen to the assembly!
Gelman did as he was told.
Principal Prickly: Also, Basketball Tryouts are this Friday after school. If you are interested, please go by Coach Kluge's room for more information. Also, if you are interested in participating in gymnastics, stop by Mr Yamashiro's room during lunch. Now look to your teachers, and have a nice day of learning.
After the assembly, back in Miss Finster's classroom, Miss Finster had an announcement,
Miss Finster: Everyone did a fine job at the assembly.
Then Miss Finster looked annoyed.
Miss Finster: Everyone except Gelman, and his friends too, who will be going straight to Principal Prickly's office now.
Then Gelman walked off to Principal Prickly's office, followed by his friends, while the good 5th Graders were laughing and Miss Finster was scowling.
Then Gelman entered Principal Prickly's office, and Principal Prickly was very annoyed with Gelman.
Principal Prickly: Gelman, I saw you at the assembly goofing off and misbehaving. Your teacher also called me that you were coming because you misbehaved at the assembly, along with your friends. That's it, you are suspended for one week! Go home right now! And do as I tell you while I give your friends a speaking to for misbehaving at the assembly.
Then Gelman did as he was told, and he went home in disgrace. Back home, Gelman's parents were scolding Gelman.
Gelman's dad: Gelman, I cannot believe you got suspended for misbehaving at the assembly. That's it, you're grounded, grounded, grounded, grounded, grounded, grounded, grounded, grounded, grounded for a week! This means no computer, no video games, no fast food places and furthermore.
Gelman's mum: You're going to do lots of chores and community service.
Gelman's dad: You will watch shows you hate like Barney, Bob the Builder, Teletubbies, Dora the Explorer, Dinosaur Train, Oswald, Super Why, Blue's Clues, Bear in the Big Blue House, Sesame Street, Elmo's World and Bear in the Big Blue House.
Gelman's mum: We will also block Comedy Central so you won't be watching South Park.
Gelman's dad: And we will call Dr Phillium Benedict to take you away to babysit you in his house!
Then Gelman's dad began to telephone Dr Phillium Benedict.
Gelman's dad: Hello, Dr Phillium Benedict! Can you take Gelman to babysit you in your house? Because he got suspended from school for misbehaving at the assembly! Okay! Thanks! Bye!
Then Gelman's dad put down the phone, and he explained to his son.
Gelman's dad: I already called Dr Phillium Benedict and he's coming over to take you to babysit you in his house.
Gelman was dismayed.
Just then, Dr Phillium Benedict came to take Gelman to babysit him in his house.
Dr Phillium Benedict: I am here to take Gelman to babysit him in my house!
So Phillium Benedict took Gelman away to babysit him in his house, and Gelman's dad thought for a minute.
Gelman's dad: I never expected this to happen.
Then Gelman's parents scowled.
